The 23rd edition of Sportel took place from 15th to 18th October.

Traditionally associated with the Prix du Livre Sportif Illustré (Illustrated Sports Book Award), for which an increasing number and variety of books contend, the Monegasque Olympic Committee awarded its prize to The Story of Swimming by Ms Susie Parr, a book dedicated to the history and evolution of swimming as well as the benefits of this sport.


Chefs de Mission Seminar

Mediterranean Games, Mersin 2013

17th to 20th October


mersinThe Chefs de Mission Seminar for the 17th edition of the Mediterranean Games in Mersin 2013 took place from 17th to 20th October.

Messrs Raymond Gnutti, Chef de Mission, and Sébastien Gattuso, Deputy Chef de Mission, were therefore able to meet the various officials in charge of the organisation, to see how work has progressed, and to visit the various competition venues and the Olympic Villages, which despite the late re-attribution of the Games due to the withdrawal of the city of Volos in Greece, for financial difficulties, were already well advanced.

The 8 Villages are modern and well-equipped. They are distributed over 2 different cities: Adana where the rowing and equitation events will take place and Mersin, where all the other events will be held.


Chefs de Mission Seminar

Winter Olympic Youth Festival - Brasov 2013

15th to 18th November





The Chefs de Mission Seminar for the Winter Olympic Youth Festival - Brasov 2013 took place from 15th to 18th November.

To the great satisfaction of all the participants, the Organising Committee provided detailed and comprehensive information concerning the event.


No Finish Line

17th to 25th November


The 13th edition of the No Finish Line was held from 17th to 25th November. 23 Monegasque athletes took part: Along the harbour, different generations of Olympians not only proudly sported the colours of the Committee, but also renewed friendships between fellow athletes.

In all, they totalled 344 laps, covering 490 kms.


8th International Olympic Committee Conference on Sport, Culture and Education in Amsterdam

from 25th to 27th November 2012



The International Olympic Committee, in partnership with the United Nations Organisation for Education, Science and Culture hosted the 8th World Conference on Sport, Education and Culture from 25th to 27th November.

H.E. Mr Gilles Tonelli, a member of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, attended the event together with over 500 representatives.gilles

The focus of the conference was "Olympism powered by youth and education"

The main topics discussed:

- the role of the family and educators in disseminating the Olympic values among young athletes,

- the obligation to include physical education programmes in school curricula,

- making authorities aware that the availability of sports facilities begins with adequate urban planning,

- the positive role the social networks can play in order to encourage youth to practise a sport.

- sport as an important tool in promoting social integration,

- the introduction and strengthening of educational programmes for athletes in order to provide them with skills to boost their professional career after high-level sport.


41st EOC General Assembly

7th and 8th December in Rome (Italy)




From 7th to 8th December, the 41st European Olympic Committees’ General Assembly took place in Rome.

The reports of the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and Pyeongchang 2018 were presented together with those of the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing 2014 and Lillehammer 2016.

In addition, the Lithuanian swimmer, Ruta Meilutyte, was named best European young athlete of the year.jeune athlete

Created in memory of the late President of the Polish NOC and member of the EOC Executive Committee, this prize encourages young athletes to pursue a career in high-level sports and inspires future generations to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

remise palmesIt is to be noted that during the first evening, Lord Sebastian Coe was decorated with the EOC Order of Merit and the European Olympic Laurels were also awarded.

The 2nd day's work was marked by the vote concerning the organisation of the 1st European Games approved by 38 for, 8 against and 2 abstentions.

The 1st edition of these European Games will therefore be organised in Baku in 2015. The precise dates are still to be defined, but most probably the event will take place in the spring or early summer and will feature fifteen or so sports.

The other important decision concerns the designation of the organising cities for the Summer and Winter European Youth Olympic Festivals 2017: Györ (Hungary) for the Summer and Sarajevo for the Winter were elected.

The next General Assembly will again take place in Rome.

International Olympic Committee Campaign



givingFinally, following an appeal by the International Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Monegasque Olympic Committee took part in the clothes collection campaign "Giving is Winning".

All the sports garments and casual wear in good condition collected were distributed to the most deprived people, especially youth, in refugee camps worldwide. This enabled sports activities to be set up and their quality of life to be improved.
