In May 1989, the 3rd Games of the Small States of Europe took place in Cyprus. One hundred and fifty two athletes, led by Ms Yvette Lambin-Berti, Vice President of the M.O.C., took part in the following events: athletics, basket ball, cycling, judo, swimming, shooting, sailing, tennis and volley ball. |
This delegation was the largest that had ever left the Principality to take part in an international competition.

Monaco won 21 medals, including 5 gold and 7 silver, confirming the 4th place they had acquired at the previous edition. Cyprus was the overall winner with 79 medals, beating Iceland (50 medals) and Luxembourg (46 medals). |
