Monaco’s Young People Get Moving for Olympic Day

In the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and at the initiative of the Monaco Olympic Committee, the Principality’s top-performing Year 5 pupils came together for a morning dedicated to sport, sharing and Olympic values.

As part of Olympic Day 2026, the Monaco Olympic Committee joined the International Olympic Committee’s global “Let’s Move” initiative. This year’s message, “You Can Do This!”, encourages everyone to discover the joy of being active and to make sport part of their daily lives.

In partnership with the Directorate of Education, Youth and Sports, the Monaco Olympic Committee offered Year 5 pupils from schools across the Principality a series of workshops inspired by World Athletics’ Kids’ Athletics programme. Its values of respect, determination and camaraderie closely reflect those of Olympism, with a fun approach to athletics — running, jumping and throwing — focused on the enjoyment of being active rather than on performance alone.

Fun and Active Workshops

Following an initial selection phase held within the schools, involving nearly 430 pupils, the top teams met on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, at the Espace Saint-Antoine for a morning filled with discovery and excitement, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II.

Wearing the colours of the five continents, in tribute to the Olympic rings, as well as those of Monaco and the 2027 Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), which the Principality will host, the young pupils enthusiastically took part in the various challenges, guided by their physical education teachers and joined by Monaco’s Olympians, who came to share their passion and experience.

As Yvette Lambin Berti, Secretary General of the Monaco Olympic Committee, reminded participants: “Sport is a wonderful school for life. Beyond performance, it helps build self-confidence and teaches respect, perseverance and the joy of sharing. It also has the power to bring people together and help build a better world.”

Commitment and Team Spirit in the Spotlight

At the end of the events, Saint-Charles School (Africa 1) took first place ahead of Fontvieille (GSSE 2027), while La Condamine (Monaco 1) and Cours Saint-Maur (Americas) shared third place. Beyond the rankings, it was above all the children’s commitment, curiosity, enjoyment of being active and team spirit that stood out throughout this year’s event.

By once again taking part in Olympic Day, whose three pillars are “Move, Learn and Discover”, in a spirit of friendship, sharing and togetherness, the Monaco Olympic Committee is reaffirming its commitment to raising awareness among young people of the importance of an active lifestyle and to bringing to life, every day, the values of excellence, friendship and respect that lie at the heart of Olympism.
