Representatives of the nine participating nations continued their joint preparations for the multi-sport event to be held in the Principality in 2027. For two days, the Principality of Monaco hosted the General Assembly and meeting of the Technical Commission of the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), a key milestone one year ahead of the 21st edition of the Games, which will take place in Monaco in 2027.
On this occasion, the Presidents and Secretaries General of the nine member National Olympic Committees — Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino — as well as delegates from the Technical Commission, gathered in the Principality to continue preparations and approve several key aspects relating to the organisation of the event.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II had the opportunity to meet with representatives of all nine participating countries, highlighting the Principality’s commitment to the values of friendship and cooperation promoted by the Games. Among the decisions adopted, the General Assembly officially confirmed the new dates for the 2027 Games of the Small States of Europe in Monaco, which will be held from 17 to 23 May 2027, and unanimously approved the inclusion of golf in the sports programme.

A sporting family
In her opening speech, Yvette Lambin Berti, Secretary General of the Monaco Olympic Committee, emphasised the importance of this collective momentum:
“By bringing together our nine countries, we form a sporting family and, together, we demonstrate that the size of a state is in no way a barrier to ambition, excellence or international recognition.”
She also highlighted Monaco’s commitment to preparing for this new edition:
“We are now one year away from the 21st Games of the Small States of Europe, which we have the honour of hosting in 2027. Preparations are already fully under way, with a clear objective: to organise an event that brings people together and leaves a lasting legacy.”
A tour of the future competition venues
The delegates of the Technical Commission also had the opportunity to visit the various venues that will host the competitions in 2027. The visit provided an opportunity to assess the sports facilities and the arrangements planned to welcome athletes and delegations in the best possible conditions.

Monaco and the legacy of the Games
Looking back at the history of the Games in the Principality, Yvette Lambin Berti referred to the previous editions hosted by Monaco, in 1987 and 2007, before stating:
“Twenty years on, it is clear that the future calls upon us to rise to the occasion! Rest assured that we will do everything in our power to offer your delegations a warm welcome and conditions that match their ambitions.”

Games built on shared values
Beyond the sporting dimension, she also emphasised the human and institutional significance of the Games:
“These Games are a powerful symbol of mutual support and sharing. They also provide an opportunity to strengthen our shared commitments.”
Monaco is preparing enthusiastically to host the Games of the Small States of Europe for the third time in its history, with the ambition of delivering a memorable edition for the participating nations, athletes and the public.
