Present in Puglia for the 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games, the Sovereign expressed his support for the Principality’s athletes and attended several events. As part of the 20th Mediterranean Games, H.S.H. Prince Albert II travelled to Taranto in southern Italy on Tuesday, 25 August, to closely follow the participation of Monaco’s delegation in this major international sporting event.

President of the Monaco Olympic Committee (COM) and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Sovereign was accompanied by Yvette Lambin Berti, Secretary General of the COM. True to his longstanding commitment to the Principality’s athletes, H.S.H. Prince Albert II shared lunch with the Monaco delegation and took the opportunity to meet and speak with the athletes competing in the Games. During the day, the Sovereign visited several venues, where he watched boules, sailing, padel and swimming events. His visit concluded with a reception with the Executive Committee of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG).
An encouraging start to the competition
Following the opening ceremony on 21 August, during which Giulia Campillo (boules) and Jérémy Moutout (sailing) had the honour of serving as flag bearers, Monaco’s representatives began their competitions.
In padel, the pair of Nicolas Fedoroff and Noah Minioni achieved a historic result for Monaco by securing a first victory at this stage of the competition. The Monegasque duo defeated Albania 2–1 before losing 0–2 to France.
In boules (petanque), Guillaume Campillo finished eighth in the precision shooting event. Partnering Alain Costa, he also placed fifth in the doubles competition. In the women’s event, Sabrina Campillo finished seventh in precision shooting. The mother-and-daughter pairing of Sabrina Campillo and Giulia Campillo was defeated by France (2–13) and Algeria (4–11).
Competition continues for the Principality’s delegation, with several Monegasque athletes still set to compete over the coming days. They will take part in athletics, equestrian sports, gymnastics, judo, table tennis and sailing.
The Sovereign alongside Yvette Lambin Berti, Secretary General of the COM, and Lucas Catarina, Deputy Chef de Mission, who celebrated his birthday in Taranto.
