   Around 1 000 athletes took part in the 10th Games of the Small States of Europe which were held from 2nd to 7th June 2003 in Malta, in the heart of the Mediterranean.

 

The Monegasque delegation including 87 athletes was led by Ms Yvette Lambin-Berti (Head of Delegation) and Mr Denis Ravera (member of the M.O.C.). They were assisted by heads of mission, Solange Ragazzoni and Raymond Gnutti.

 

The Monegasque athletes stepped onto the highest level of the podium on 7 occasions:

  • 3 times in swimming : Georges Bagri for the 100m butterfly, the 200m freestyle and the relay 4x200m freestyle, with Thomas Molina, François-Xavier Paquot and Eric Rottinger,

  • 2 times in judo :

 

 

Thierry Vatrican, in the under 81 kg  

 

 

  Philippe Gerace, in the under 90 kg

 

  • 2 times in sailing: Matthieu Mariani, in an Optimist and Andrea Orlando, in a Laser Radial.

 

Despite a marked improvement in the level of all the participants, with 17 other medals being won by Monaco, 7 silver and 10 bronze, the Principality ranked fifth after the Republic of Malta.
